Recently you heard from David Harris, AJC’s Executive Director in our New York headquarters about AJC's Global Advocacy work that is helping to build a secure Jewish future in a more just world.

Seattle’s mission is to support AJC's goals, and, at the same time, make our activities relevant and engaging to you and others in the community. To that end, we would like to share with you some highlights of our work from the last six months of 2010 that was made possible through the support of our donors and members.

Supporting Israel – AJC Seattle hosted a private, sold out screening of the award-winning film “Lebanon” with special guest speakers Akiva Tor, Consul General of Israel and Yehudit Barsky, AJC’s Expert on Terrorism. AJC Seattle launched its “BUY-cott Israel” program and participated in a successful AJC nationwide BUY-cott day, where local community members purchased Israeli products and thanked store managers for their support.

Exposing anti-Semitism – Ken Stern, AJC’s Expert on anti-Semitism joined Wendy Rosen, AJC Seattle Regional Director for an open dialogue with the President of The Evergreen State College on the topic of anti-Israel sentiment on the Evergreen College campus.

Promoting Tolerance – Ensuring the safety of Jews in Central and Eastern Europe is dependent on a political environment committed to the values of democracy, tolerance and support for minority rights. A group of five emerging leaders from Ukraine, Russia, Germany, Armenia and Azerbaijan were hosted by AJC in Seattle as a way to show how we promote tolerance. Our program focused on past segregation issues and our current community's embrace of diversity with a regional Native American and Pacific Rim experience.

Interreligious Dialogue  Earlier this year, AJC Seattle was actively engaged in meetings with local Presbyterian leaders to discuss the Church’s efforts to divest from Israel.  Prior to the Presbyterian Church (USA) 219th General Assembly, we were grateful to have the opportunity to meet with church leadership and provide a different perspective on Middle East issues.

International Relations – Simone Rodan-Benzaquen, AJC France Director kicked off a new AJC national speakers series "Around The Globe With AJC". Simone spoke about the future of French relations with the Jewish community and the US and Israel at an AJC Seattle community event, as well as at Temple B'nai Torah and Herzl-Ner Tamid Shabbat services.

The last six months have been very busy and 2011— beginning with the AJC Seattle Jewish Film Festival — looks even busier. Please consider making a year-end gift to AJC Seattle. We need your help to continue our vital advocacy work in our community.

Sincerely,

Adam Goldblatt, Seattle Regional President

Wendy Rosen, Seattle Regional Director
