Volunteer

AJC depends upon the active involvement of its members.  We hope you will consider volunteering for one of the following committees or programs.  Currently, we have a marketing and development intern position available (info is below). To get involved, please contact us at seattle@ajc.org.

1. Development Committee
The Development Committee's work is lifeblood for our chapter's programs and for helping to maintain National AJC's work as well. 

2. International Affairs Committee
Volunteers conduct outreach with the Seattle Consular Association; work with local ethnic and religious leaders on international issues of concern to our community and organization and support Israel in its quest for peace and security.

3. Seattle Jewish Film Festival
Volunteers plan and execute all aspects of the annual film festival, from selecting the films to organizing post-film events and arranging marketing and public relations. 

4.  Student Human Relations Awards

Volunteers help manage the nomination and selection process of the award recipients as well as plan the award presentation event.  

5.  Shemanski FilmTalks

Volunteers are responsible for film selection, curriculum development, program planning, fundraising, facilitator training, and program implementation.

MARKETING & DEVELOPMENT INTERN

Internship Title: Development/Marketing Intern
Supervisor: Development Director
Start Date: October 1, 2009
End Date: March 31, 2010
Hours Per Week: approx. 15 (flexible schedule)

American Jewish Committee is the country’s first human relations organization. Over the course of our history we have worked to safeguard minorities, fight anti-Semitism and bigotry; pursue social justice and advance human dignity; support Israel’s right to exist in peace and security and defend religious freedom. Major programs at the Seattle Chapter include the Seattle Jewish Film Festival - a ten-day cinematic celebration of the latest international, Jewish themed films, FilmTalks – a day-long diversity and prejudice-reduction training for high school students, and the Student Human Relations Awards Program – recognizing local high school students doing exemplary human relations work.

Anyone interested in a career in nonprofit fundraising, event planning or marketing/PR will gain valuable experience in this six-month internship. Candidates should have strong communication, writing, and organizational/research skills, as well as being self motivated.

Duties:

·          Assist with donor cultivation activities and management of donor database

·          Work with development team to plan and execute fundraising events

·          Work with staff to create materials.

·          Take part in the creation of marketing and public relations messaging

 Qualifications:

·          Strong written and oral communication skills

·          Basic computer skills; familiarity with databases and desktop publishing a plus

·          Relevant coursework in fundraising, marketing or PR a plus

·          Independent workers, creative thinkers encouraged to apply!
